wow, you guys are really on top of this.  i didn't mean to reply so quickly.
i have a bit of a hair trigger for a send button.   both stan's and chris's
suggestions work and i didn't get to you're lou.

closing the circle with :
ret = IpAnSet(GO_ATTR_CONNECT,1)

as well as adding
Outline(numPoints) = Outline(0)
ret = IpAnPolyAddPtArray(Outline(0), numPoints + 1)

to my code works fine.
